Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina
With major operation centers in Durham, Fayetteville and Winston Salem, BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina is a fully taxed, not-for-profit health insurance company that seeks to improve the overall health of North Carolinians. It was started in 1933, and has consistently served millions of people, with care being the driving factor. With the help of doctors, hospitals and other experts in the field, they are able to bring their customers innovative solutions and affordable healthcare. The organization as a whole wants to make a difference, however this starts at the individual, employee level. Employees immerse themselves in the communities they serve. In the past, they have helped construct KaBOOM! playgrounds with help from parent volunteers and have packaged hundreds of thousands of meals in the annual Sort-a-Rama hunger relief effort. Backpack Buddies, Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics and the Ronald McDonald House are other organizations that BlueCross BlueShield employees have dedicated their time to. As of 2017, they can now also say that they support sustainability among bee communities!
