durham public school's hub farm
The Hub Farm of Durham Public Schools is an outdoor learning space for the community, students and teachers to enjoy. It is a 30 acre farm, woodland and aquatic habitat where individuals can grow, harvest and cook healthy food, hike, bike and explore nature, and engage in agriculture, food systems and natural science education. It officially launched in October 2012, and resources have grown to include chickens, a barn, nature trails, a floating lab, outdoor classrooms and more. This is just the beginning though. They have a 10 year plan for the future. Some of their goals include building a reflection space, a tree house and an adventure course. They want composting areas throughout and connections to the Eno State Park via nature trails too. We know that they have already checked one item off their bucket list, and that was having healthy beehives! This is a great place to learn about pollinators, especially since they now have 2 hives on the grounds.
